Meet the Artist

I'm Suzanna, the artist and hands behind Wheel House Pottery. When it comes to art, my very first love was painting. Whether that be acrylics, oils, watercolors, inks, egg tempera or anything else in between. I began as a realist and got my BFA degree with a concentration in painting. Later in life, I began experimenting with abstract work and discovered the beauty of fluid acrylics. While acquiring my BFA I took a few ceramics courses and fell madly in love. I spent countless hours in the studio and couldn’t get enough. Post college I continued painting, but always day dreamed of getting back into ceramics. In 2019 I was able to get my hands on a wheel and a kiln and the dream was realized.

I am drawn to clay for its unique ability to be both functional and beautiful. My creative style is colorful, energetic, and light hearted. I often let parts of the creating process be revealed in my work, and play with elements such as visible brush strokes, paint splatters, and raw clay. I now own and operate my own pottery studio, and I work to create useful wares that are pieces of abstract art in their own right.

I believe art does great things for the soul. It speaks to people, inspires people, brings out curiosities and creates wonder. I believe art is personal and that everyone finds pieces or styles that resonate with them.

We are all better off with a touch of art in our lives and it would be an honor and a privilege to have a piece in your home.

Love,
